AB OBJECTIVES: To find out the sexual relationship in nepalese population:
To find out the average frequency of sex contact. To find out the
earliest age of sex contact. To find out the frequency of pre and/or
extramarital sexual relationship in the population. METHODS: Random
Sampling of the respondents, above the age of 14 years. Cross sectional
population. Open ended questionnaire, confidential interview technique.
RESULTS: 24.1% male have pre or extramarital sexual contact. 14.9%
female have pre or extramarital sexual relationship. The mean frequency
of sex contact is 3 per week in the married couple. The earliest age of
sex contact was 10 years for female and 13 years for female. DISCUSSION:
The sexual behavior pattern was so far not studied in Nepal. In the era
of AIDS, the sexual behavior should be studied. In Nepali population it
was found that pre and/or extramarital sex is not so infrequent and most
of these sex contacts are unsafe. Thus there is high risk behavior for
transmission of HIV. Early AIDS education is extremely necessary as the
earliest age of sex contact is low than is thought.
